Beautiful Light Procession

Each first Saturday in November, the Sint-Martinus procession (St. Martin’s Parade) takes place in the Genk city centre.
At 6 pm, schools, youth groups, brass bands and the Genk Guilds get ready to begin the beautiful light procession. Joined by national and international high-profile groups, they form a spectacular parade. This is how they celebrate Genk’s patron saint.

Enjoy this spectacle of light and fire. Breathe in the great atmosphere and be amazed by the fabulous procession. If you are lucky, the bakers, who are proud participants of the procession, will hand out tasty St-Maarten 'Kroakers'.

The fiery parade is concluded with a fire show, the lighting of a metres-high stake and fireworks (at the Evenementenplein).

On this day each year the streetlights are turned off to show the procession to full effect. Children light up the streets with flambeaus and lights.
