Sint Martinus

'If there are leaves on the trees around St Maarten, the winter will be mild'. Whether there will be a harsh winter  remains to be seen. We are sure however, that many schools, youth societies and guilds will celebrate Genk's patron saint on the first Saturday after 3 November. As the patron saint of both the city and the decanal church, Sint Martinus has become an integral part of the annual Sint Martinus celebrations. A fiery procession goes throught the city centre, the parade ends in a fiery spectacle and a breathtaking firework display.
