The Christ-King church of Waterschei

Previous pageNext pageStartpagina

The Christ-King church was built between 1934 and 1936, after a design of architect Voutquenne.

The tower in concrete skeleton framing and the influence of the New Objectivity is characteristic.  According to form, this mine cathedral is the most modern of all the mine churches from that period.

Inside, the concrete structures have been left visible.  Grand arches have made side aisles superfluous, so the entire congregation can see the main altar. The church also has huge stained glass windows depicting the high holidays.

In 2002 the church was classified as a protected monument.
