Odile Kinart

Odile Kinart (1945) studied sculpting at the Genk Art School. Because she was a language teacher, she had the opportunity to express her interest in literature and poetry, but visual art gave her an extra possibility to express herself.

Kinart put it into words, 'A single theme can become a tearjerker in one poem and something truly emotional, universal or poetic in the other. The difference is not in the subject, but in the choice and distribution of the words and pauses. In visual art, volumes, lines and tension in shape are important.'

Pre-columbian and African cultures have inspired Odile Kinart deeply. Etnic art attracts her because it is sober and simple, almost childish, but it has great expressiveness and create an almost tangible pleasure.

Kinart herself is a workaholic, driven and restless. She expresses situations she longs for but does not possess. Her figures are restful - her boats have no oars. They go with the flow, in harmony with the elements, with life itself.

Woolliness and pretension in art irritate her. Kinart wishes her sculpures to be understood by everyone; by uneducated people as well as graduates. And she does it; accidental passers-by in say Maasmechelen Village appreciate her work, and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands is one of her fans (and clients).

From 1990 the Flemish artist has become known through her ceramic creations. Since 1995 the artist has used bronze as her material of choice.

Kinart has had exhibitions in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Libanon, Canada and the USA.
You can meet the artist and her work up close too; just make an appointment.
