As early as during his studies in industrial design at the Genk Media- and Design Academy, for Michael Verheyden 24 hours in a day was not enough. He worked for established designers like Fabiaan Van Severen and Piet Stockmans and because of a critical encounter Raf Simons got to know the Parisian world of fashion up close.
In 2001 Verheyden graduated on a surprising clothing concept, ATOMIClothing. He has not stopped since. He launched his own collection of (hand)bags and accessories, which is being sold in many outlets. Moreover, he designed the information counter for the Z33 Arts Centre, organised several exhibitions for the Hasselt Fashion Museums, amongst other things.
Music plays an important part in the life and work of the designer. He designed a belt for the 20th edition of Pukkelpop, to the delight of Róisín Murphy and James Murphy LCD Soundsystem, DFA), and he collaborated with Chicks on Speed and Bent Van Looy (Das Pop).
Since recently, the Genk designer is located at C-Mine. Together with Piet Stockmans he is the second creative artist who has settled on the site (Piet Stockmans in 2010).
